the Blackfeet Volunteer Medical Corps

the Blackfeet Volunteer Medical Corps

is a not-for-profit organization providing medical care and construction services to the Blackfeet Nation of northwestern Montana. Founded in 2000, the Corps has spent over a decade treating thousands of patients and completing dozens of construction projects on the Blackfeet Reservation in and around Browning, Montana.

There are two main divisions of the Blackfeet Volunteer Medical Corps, one headed by Dr. Michael Liston. Dr. Liston and his surgical team travel to Browning several times a year to perform arthroscopies, joint replacements, and other major surgical tasks.

The other group includes both medical and construction volunteers, and is headed by Dr. Joseph Matheu. This group travels to Montana each summer just after the July Fourth holiday. Their arrival is timed to coincide with North American Indian Days, an annual festival of Native American music and dance that brings Indians from all over the continent to the Blackfeet Reservation. Volunteers spend one week doing construction work or treating patients at the Blackfeet Community Hospital.

The Reservation includes the world-renowned Glacier National Park, which holds some of the most breathtaking natural beauty to be found anywhere on earth. After a day of hard work serving the Blackfeet, volunteers can enjoy hiking, rafting, horseback riding, and bus tours.

Plans are underway now for our next campaign. If you are interested in volunteering, click here. You can also contribute financially with a donation. The BVMC is a registered non-profit charitable organization, so donations are tax-deductible.
